Why are so many T Mobile towers showing?
Thie Cell ID site map actually has a tower showing in my driveway and my backyard???
There’s about ten others in my neighborhood that are showing but do not exist….
How do I interpret this?
The FAQ has a decent description of how they come up with tower positions. From my reading, the returned GPS coordinates are often going to be the center of the cell’s coverage area, not the physical tower location. As I understand it, if you were driving in a circle around a tower, once your phone (UE) makes a handoff from one antenna to another on the same physical tower, the cell ID would be different. Thus appearing as a different cell with different GPS coordinates. An exception is if OpenCellID has data linking multiple cell IDs with the same physical location, though I have no idea how often this happens.
